Flowers and Gardening is a play on community gardening practices. Communities come together to strengthen their relationships and address communal needs through community gardens. At the F&G studio, we experiment with how to co-create communal spaces for play, archive and hold stories while contributing to feminist technological architectures of care and joy. Â
OUR PHILOSOPHY

Plants are memory keepers. They sit in silent communion with our remains, stories and memories – Elif Shafak. We are less interested in care as a framework but as a way of being. We practice this through stillness, the research process, and embracing uncertainty during production.Â
Flowers and Gardening invites you to reflect on how we can each contribute to internet experiences that are based on what communities share rather than what is forcefully extracted. And, we ask you: what type of technologies can serve as a creative and imaginative space allowing us to reflect, laugh , and tend to each other through solidarity?

THE PROCESS
Just like plants we bloom systemically, transferring our energies to the root during winter, and begin growing new leaves in spring, fully blooming in the summer.Â
Before creating new products or experiences we take time to play. Swing, jump aimlessly, laugh with friends.Â

We might have moments of very uncomfortable silences which may feel unproductive, yet embody the slow production and care we practice in our work.
During this moment, we ask you to keep returning to our space, play our games with your friends, or tend to whatever version of a garden you have access to..

OUR CONTRIBUTORS
JOIN OUR COMMUNITY
Plants hold our memories and stories. They force us to be still, and give us space to feel, whatever it may be. This is our space to simulate similar workings by documenting oral histories, stories, sharing our thought process and research that inspired a particular play experience.Â
As we plant seeds and tend to them, we nurture the land and ourselves through stories. In this space, we document the oral histories, our research that inspired a particular game, and general thought process.Â
